"Cape Breton Highlands national park has some of the darkest skies in Nova Scotia. From March to September you can get great photos of the Milky Way with some great natural compositions of hills, valleys and the ocean. All year round and especially from September to March, there are some great opportunities to shoot the Northern lights if they make an appearance this far south. It takes a reasonably strong solar storm but when it happens it can be a magical place to watch them with great vistas and dark skies to the north. For deep sky astronomy, there are numerous places where you can view or photograph deep sky objects. The high elevation of the park means less atmosphere to look through and dark skies means faint objects can be more visible. “
